I'm Rebecca Brownlie, an award-winning photographer, author and heritage storyteller, and the founder of Abandoned NI.

My work is dedicated to documenting the buildings, landscapes and forgotten places that have shaped our communities before they disappear. Through photography, historical research and public engagement, I aim to reconnect people with the heritage that exists on their doorstep.

Over the past decade, I've explored and documented hundreds of historic and abandoned sites across Ireland, sharing their stories through bestselling books, television, exhibitions, public talks and guided heritage walks.

My work has been featured by the BBC, (Abandoned Ulster)  UTV (Barra on the Foyle)  and RTÉ. (Treige), and has reached audiences of hundreds of thousands through social media and live events.

I believe every building has a story worth preserving. Whether I'm researching a former linen mill, leading a walking tour through a historic town, or uncovering the history of a forgotten police station, my goal is to make history engaging, accessible and relevant to modern audiences.

Alongside my heritage work, I'm passionate about developing innovative ways to preserve stories for future generations through photography, digital interpretation and community projects that celebrate both people and places.

​

I'm always interested in collaborating with councils, museums, heritage organisations, community groups and businesses who share a passion for preserving and promoting our built heritage.
