Exclusive Access with Abandoned Ni – 23rd & 24th May

For two days only this May, the historic Governor’s House at Omagh Gaol will be opened exclusively for us — offering a rare opportunity to step inside one of Northern Ireland’s most fascinating and atmospheric forgotten buildings.

Join me for a guided history tour through the dark and compelling story of Omagh Gaol and the Governor’s House itself.

During the experience, we will explore:

  • The origins of the prison,

  • Executions and infamous prisoners,

  • The Panopticon-inspired design of the gaol

  • Stories of the governors and their families

  • The legend of Montgomery and his reported burial on the grounds

  • Victorian prison life

  • Disease, tragedy and abandonment

  • The incredible architecture and haunting atmosphere that still survives today

Visitors will also get the chance to see fascinating objects uncovered during the building’s recent clear-out, while hearing directly about Rodney’s ongoing restoration work, renovation progress, and future plans for the property.

A guided walk through the safest accessible areas of the Gaol, allowing you to experience this remarkable history firsthand to stand within its walls, feel the atmosphere, and immerse yourself in the textures, stories and decay of the building itself.

This is far more than a standard tour it’s a unique opportunity to experience a hidden piece of Ulster history normally closed to the public.

As many of you know through my work with Abandoned NI, the Abandoned Ireland books, and the BBC documentary Abandoned Ulster, I’m passionate about preserving and sharing the stories behind forgotten places and this is one of the most remarkable sites I’ve ever had the privilege to explore.

🎟 Tickets are now on sale.

Due to the exclusive nature of the event and limited access, these will not hang around for long!
