This is the real story of how one Irish family crossed oceans, faced heartbreak, and still found their way home.
In 1870, newlyweds Mary and John (names changed) left rural Ireland for a fresh start in New York. They settled quickly, loved the energy of the city, and started a family. But Mary never shook the deep homesickness, and soon they returned to Tyrone with their two children, investing everything into a local hotel.

Sadly, post-Famine hardship had hollowed the town. The business failed, the marriage crumbled, and Mary was forced to return to New York alone — determined to provide for her children.

Sadly, post-Famine hardship had hollowed the town. The business failed, the marriage crumbled, and Mary was forced to return to New York alone — determined to provide for her children.

She found work, sent money home, and her father saved every penny. After 7 long years, he bought a cottage with a pig crawl, stables, and room to grow. Mary returned to Ireland for good, children in tow.
Life seemed to settle — until tragedy struck and her eldest son died in a field accident. Her daughter Aideen became a nurse, married Danny, and raised three sons in that very cottage.

Mary passed in 1937, leaving the home to Aideen and Danny. Aideen passed peacefully in 1986, leaving it to their eldest son Peter, who raised his own family on the land.
